My pages are still under construction, please don't expect anything fancy... :-(

This is me, married for about an hour. My wife had just been kidnapped...

Before I moved to Santa Cruz to work on my PhD at this beautyful campus, I lived in Aachen, the most western city of Germany, at the border to both Belgium and the Netherlands, in the heart of Europe.

I've been married to my wife Kaarin since 1992. She is a gardener and earned a Diplom in horticulture from the TU-München at Weihenstephan. Considering the fact that this is the only University in Germany where you can study brewing beer, horticulture doesn't seem to be the right choice, but she wouldn't listen to me then. Beware when you are driving around Santa Cruz, our friend Chane refers to her as the "crazy German woman in a VW-Bus." He claims that she drives Highway 17 on two wheels, but I think he exaggerates a little. She also likes photography, which is why I can put all these nice pictures on my pages.

But at least, we recently started to brew our own beer. The first few batches turned out quite good, but we'll have to experiment some more.

Our big hobby is climbing and mountaineering. We also love to take our VW-Bus and just go to nice places -- preferably with some good rocks around.

I also like soccer. I played a lot when I was younger (never in a club, but for a long time almost daily with friends). I also went to a lot of games, mainly to those of Alemannia Aachen, the major club in my hometown. (Since the stadium was in my neighborhood, I knew all the holes in the fence.) Unfortunately (Kaarin would probably say fortunately), they don't show much soccer on TV in this country. But at least there are some nice sites on the web that make it possible to keep track of what is happening in the German Bundesliga, and how my favorite club there, FC Bayern München, is doing.
