Cognitive science is the study of how the mind processes information.

What we are interested in understanding is how the mind takes in information from the environment (through the senses) and then stores and manipulates this information to allow us to generate appropriate responses. Unlike the behaviorists, who were only interested in the stimuli and the responses, cognitive scientists want to look inside the "black box" and understand how given stimuli lead to given responses. Beyond simple conditioning, what are the mental computations that are performed that allow us to be intelligent, thinking beings.
